The Acer Swift 3X lands in an interesting niche, pairing Intel's Iris Xe Max discrete GPU with a slim, portable design. While not a powerhouse for gaming, it provides a solid experience for students, casual users, and aspiring creators who need a lightweight, well-connected machine.

Design and Build

Weighing just 1.37 kilograms and measuring 12.7 x 8.4 x 0.71 inches, the Swift 3X feels premium thanks to its aluminum body, available in Safari Gold or Steam Blue. However, Acer uses plastic for the hinge, which slightly detracts from the high-end feel. All ports are neatly arranged: on the right, you’ll find a headphone jack, USB-A, and a Kensington lock slot, while the left offers a DC input, another USB-A, Thunderbolt 4 (with USB charging), and HDMI—making it rare but welcome for ultrabooks.

Audio

Dual stereo speakers sit on the bottom edge, delivering clear vocals but lacking strong bass. The included DTS Audio software allows some tuning, improving the overall sound for movies and music.

Display

The 14-inch matte IPS LCD panel boasts a bright 300 nits peak brightness, FHD resolution, and 100% sRGB coverage. While not ideal for professional color work, it works well for web design, photo editing, and general media consumption. The anti-glare finish keeps reflections manageable even in outdoor settings.

Webcam and Keyboard

A 720p webcam sits above the narrow top bezel, producing soft, grainy video—consider an external camera for frequent video calls. The keyboard feels average with mild flex on the right side, decent key travel, and backlighting that lacks brightness adjustment. There’s no dedicated numpad, but Num Lock lets you repurpose the left side for calculations.

Touchpad and Biometrics

The large plastic touchpad features integrated left/right buttons and works smoothly with Windows Precision drivers. A separate fingerprint scanner next to the touchpad offers fast, reliable Windows Hello login.

Performance

Powered by an Intel Core i7-1165G7 processor, 16GB LPDDR4X RAM, and a 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD, the Swift 3X handles everyday tasks effortlessly—think web browsing with 20 Chrome tabs and light Photoshop editing. However, the Iris Xe Max GPU (4GB VRAM) shows its limits in gaming: Valorant runs around 85fps on High, CS:GO needs Medium settings for playable 55fps, and GTA V hits about 55fps on Normal. Cyberpunk 2077 remains unplayable except at extremely low settings.

Cooling is handled by a single fan with dual heat pipes. It stays quiet in normal use but becomes audible under heavy workloads. Temperatures reached around 49ºC near the vents after extended gaming.

Battery and Charging

A 58.7Wh battery delivers roughly 6 hours and 45 minutes of mixed use, falling short of Acer’s claimed 14 hours. The included 65W charger can fully replenish the battery in about 1 hour and 40 minutes. USB Power Delivery works through the Thunderbolt port, and the right-side USB-A supports charging devices while powered off.

Software and Bloatware

The review unit shipped with Windows 10 and several pre-installed apps like Norton Security and Agoda. After updating to Windows 11, some games initially failed to launch due to driver and TPM issues, though updating to the latest Iris Xe Max driver resolved most problems. Valorant still refused to run due to persistent TPM/secure boot conflicts.

Verdict

Priced at NPR 148,000, the Acer Swift 3X isn’t a gaming laptop, nor does it aim to be. It shines for users prioritizing portability, a quality display, and solid connectivity over raw performance. Students, casual creators, and everyday users will appreciate its balance of performance and mobility. Gamers or power users seeking strong graphics performance should look elsewhere, as the Iris Xe Max remains a niche addition with limited software support.
