Key Takeaways

  • The second-generation AirTag boasts a 50% longer range for Precision Finding and works directly with Apple Watch Series 9 or later
  • It includes a speaker that is 50% louder and an upgraded Bluetooth chip for extended detection range
  • Expected price in Nepal is NPR 5,999 for a single unit and NPR 19,999 for a four-pack

Apple has officially updated its AirTag tracker nearly five years after the original launch. The second-generation AirTag keeps the familiar coin-shaped design but features completely redesigned internal components that deliver noticeably better tracking performance, a more powerful speaker, and improved integration with the Apple Watch.

The primary enhancement comes from the second-generation Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip, the same technology used in the iPhone 17 and Apple Watch Series 11. This upgrade extends the range of Precision Finding by up to 50 percent compared to the original model. For the first time, users can activate Precision Finding directly from an Apple Watch, specifically Series 9 or later models, receiving both haptic and visual guidance on their wrist.

Apple has also redesigned the interior to fit a speaker that is 50 percent louder than before. Additionally, an upgraded Bluetooth chip expands the distance at which an iPhone can detect the AirTag. The global Find My network, supported by hundreds of millions of Apple devices, continues to offer end-to-end encrypted tracking.

Another significant software-based feature is Share Item Location, which lets users securely share an AirTag's position with trusted third parties, such as airline customer service. These sharing links are temporary and automatically expire after seven days.

Globally, the second-generation AirTag is priced at $29 for a single pack and $99 for a four-pack. In Nepal, authorized resellers like Oliz Store and EvoStore are expected to introduce the new trackers soon. The anticipated price for a single AirTag is NPR 5,999, while a four-pack should cost NPR 19,999.
