Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch M2 Chip Launches in Nepal With Updated Performance

Apple has launched the 13-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M2 chip, bringing notable performance improvements to its compact design. Officially available in Nepal, the laptop now features the advanced M2 processor, which includes an octa-core CPU with four high-performance and four high-efficiency cores, built on a second-generation 5nm process. This upgrade introduces 20 billion transistors, a 25% increase over the previous M1 chip, and a 10-core GPU, up from the M1’s 8-core.

According to Apple, the M2 delivers an 18% increase in CPU performance, along with a 35% boost in GPU capabilities and a 40% enhancement in the Neural Engine. The chip also provides 50% more memory bandwidth than its predecessor and supports up to 24GB of unified memory. In benchmark comparisons, Apple claims the M2 outperforms the 10-core Intel Core i7-1255U processor paired with 16GB of memory by a factor of 1.9X. The media engine now supports up to 8K H.264, HEVC, and ProRes encode/decode, enabling more efficient playback of multiple 4K and 8K streams.

Despite the new processor, the design and many hardware features remain unchanged from the previous model. The laptop retains its 13.3-inch Retina IPS display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, True Tone technology, and the P3 color gamut. It also continues to feature the Touch Bar, making it the only current Mac model to include this interactive strip above the keyboard.

Connectivity options stay consistent, offering two USB-C Thunderbolt 3 ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.0. For external display support, the MacBook Pro can drive a single display at up to 6K resolution at 60Hz. The device dimensions remain at 0.61 inches in height, 11.97 inches in width, and 8.36 inches in depth, weighing 1.4 kilograms. It also includes a 58.2Whr lithium-polymer battery and a 67W USB-C power adapter, with color options available in Space Grey and Silver.

Currently, all configurations of the 13-inch MacBook Pro with the M2 chip are reported as unavailable in Nepal. Pricing for the different variants starts at NPR 189,900 for the base 8GB RAM with 256GB SSD model, rising to NPR 335,000 for the top-tier 24GB RAM with 1TB SSD configuration.
