Samsung Debuts Galaxy A17 4G with Helio G99 Processor

Samsung has expanded its Galaxy A series with the launch of the Galaxy A17 4G, following the recent release of its 5G counterpart. This model targets the highly competitive budget smartphone market, offering a blend of familiar components and subtle improvements over previous entries.

The Galaxy A17 4G features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a smooth 90Hz refresh rate. The panel is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+, and the phone maintains an IP54 rating for dust and splash resistance. At 7.5mm thick and weighing 190 grams, it presents a slim and manageable design, slightly thinner than the older A16 4G model. Notably, this version lacks 5G connectivity, which remains exclusive to the A17 5G model.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 chipset, paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD up to 2TB. It runs on Android 15 with Samsung's One UI 7 interface and is promised six years of software updates. While the Helio G99 is not a new chip, the increased RAM and storage represent a clear upgrade over the A16 4G’s 4GB configuration.

The camera setup mirrors the A16 4G, with a 50MP main camera featuring optical image stabilization, a 5MP ultrawide lens, and a 2MP macro shooter. The front camera is a 13MP shooter, capable of recording video at 1080p 30fps. A sizable 5,000mAh battery supports the device, paired with 25W fast charging.

Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and USB Type-C. Samsung has also integrated minor software enhancements such as the Gemini AI assistant and Circle to Search functionality, although these additions are relatively subtle.

The Galaxy A17 4G is expected to arrive in Nepal soon, with an anticipated price of NPR 21,000 for the 6GB/128GB variant, making it a compelling option in the budget smartphone space.
