Gionee has unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Elife S7, at the Mobile World Congress. This device serves as the successor to the Gionee S5.5 and S5.1 models and promises a blend of style, performance, and longevity. The phone will become available in Macau on March 18th and in India on April 3rd, priced at €400 (Rs.45,000).

Design and Build

The Elife S7 boasts a premium construction using aviation-grade alloy and stainless steel sheet combined with nano-molding plastic. This results in a robust and slim profile measuring just 5.5mm thin, resistant to bending. The unibody design features Gorilla Glass 3 on both the front and rear, while the sides incorporate a unique U-shaped skeleton groove. It supports dual SIMs and 4G LTE connectivity. Despite its slender form, the phone houses a substantial 2750mAh non-removable battery, supported by various power-saving technologies developed by Gionee.

Display and Visuals

The smartphone sports a vivid 5.2-inch AMOLED display with full HD (1080p) resolution and a sharp 294 ppi density. This screen promises enhanced brightness and color saturation while using ACL technology to cut power consumption by 25 percent. Protection is provided by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

Software and Performance

Running on Android 5.0 Lollipop with Gionee's new Amigo 3.0 interface, the Elife S7 is powered by a MediaTek MT6752 chipset. This 64-bit processor features eight Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.7GHz, coupled with a Mali-T760 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The HPM technology enables efficient processing, ensuring smooth performance with minimal lag.

Camera Capabilities

Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the Elife S7's imaging setup. The rear camera packs a 13MP sensor with Gionee's Image+ processing system, capable of capturing six shots per second. Impressively, it can snap a photo in just 500 milliseconds with a focus time of 300 milliseconds. The front-facing 8MP camera includes Face Beauty 3.0 technology, which analyzes gender and age to apply natural-looking enhancements for superior selfies.

Audio Experience

Users can expect rich audio thanks to an integrated Hi-Fi standard sound system with custom-designed speakers and Smart PA. This setup, combined with DTS audio enhancement, delivers loud, clear sound and a home-theater-like experience even in an ultra-slim body.

Battery Life and Efficiency

Gionee has prioritized battery endurance in the Elife S7. The 2750mAh battery benefits from multiple optimizations, including ACL display technology that reduces power draw by 25 percent and a Dark theme that cuts consumption by an additional 30 percent. A new sensor hub decreases CPU wake-ups by 20 percent. The company claims these improvements grant up to two days of usage. For emergencies, an Extreme Mode restricts functionality to calls and messages only, providing up to 33 hours of standby on just 10 percent battery.
