Hamro Patro to Launch Nepali Film Streaming Platform

Key Takeaways
- Hamro Patro will launch an OTT service featuring Nepali films
- Royalties will be paid to producers based on view counts
- The service will compete with Netflix and local platforms like Cinemaghar
Hamro Patro is preparing to expand into the entertainment space with the introduction of its own over-the-top (OTT) streaming service dedicated to Nepali films. Sudina Gautam, the Fintech Operations Director at Hamro Patro, verified the company’s intention to acquire and stream Nepali movies through this new platform.
The service will follow a royalty-based model, purchasing films from producers and distributing earnings according to how many times each movie is viewed. It is still unknown whether current Hamro Patro users will have access to the streaming service through their existing subscriptions or if the company will adopt a separate pricing structure.
Hamro Patro has not yet decided whether the OTT service will be built into its current app or released as a standalone application. The company previously used a similar approach with Hamro Pay, which began as a feature within the main app before becoming an independent service.
This new platform will enter a market already served by global giant Netflix and local players such as Cinemaghar and Kantipur Cinemas. However, Hamro Patro may have a distinct advantage due to its established user base of over ten million customers, which could provide a solid foundation for growth in the streaming space.
