HTC Unveils One A9s at IFA 2016
HTC has taken the stage at IFA to reveal the One A9s, a follow-up to last year’s One A9. Known for its iPhone-like aesthetics, the original One A9 was also HTC’s first device to run its own version of Android with HTC Sense UI. The new One A9s keeps much of the same design language but moves the camera to the left corner of the rear, differing from the top-center placement on its predecessor. Beyond this shift, several other specifications have been tweaked.
The One A9s is slated for a market launch come October, although exact pricing has yet to be announced. The device sports a 5.0-inch Super LCD capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a density of approximately 294 ppi, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass of an unspecified generation. Under the hood, it runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow powered by a MediaTek MT6755 Helio P1 chipset, an octa-core processor combining four cores clocked at 1.8 GHz and four at 1.0 GHz, paired with a Mali-T860MP2 GPU.
Storage options include 16 GB of internal memory with 2 GB of RAM or 32 GB with 3 GB of RAM, expandable via microSD up to 256 GB using a dedicated slot. The camera setup consists of a 13 MP primary shooter with autofocus and LED flash, supported by a 5 MP front-facing camera. Photography features include geo-tagging, face detection, panorama mode, and HDR, with video recording capable of 1080p at 30 frames per second.
A non-removable 2300 mAh battery supplies power, offering up to 432 hours of standby or around 13 hours of talk time over 3G. Fast charging support is included at 5V/1.5A, alongside extreme power-saving modes. The device will come in Black, Silver, and Gold color options.
Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n across 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, Bluetooth 4.2 with A2DP, microUSB 2.0, NFC, and GPS with A-GPS and GLONASS. Audio is enhanced with dual microphones featuring noise cancellation and HTC’s signature BoomSound technology.
