HTC U11 Expected Features, Release Date and Teaser Insights

HTC is preparing to unveil its flagship for 2017, the HTC U11, which will succeed last year's HTC 10. The most talked-about feature is the Edge Sense frame, designed to detect various pressure levels along the device's sides for enhanced interaction. This innovation is highlighted in the latest official teaser video from HTC.

The U11 is expected to sport a 5.5-inch QuadHD display, possibly protected by sapphire glass, though it remains unclear whether it will use LCD or AMOLED technology. Under the hood, it will rely on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, paired with 4GB of RAM and storage options of either 64GB or 128GB, expandable up to 256GB via a compatible card.

Photographically, the device should carry a 12MP rear camera with optical image stabilization and 4K video recording at 30 frames per second. Front camera rumors vary, but many believe it will match the HTC U Ultra's 16MP unit rather than a lower 8MP alternative. Battery capacity is speculated to start at 3000mAh, potentially higher to support the high-resolution screen.

Running Android 7 Nougat with HTC's custom Sense interface, the U11 will feature capacitive buttons flanking a fingerprint sensor that doubles as a home button. Like its predecessor, it will omit the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack and include four microphones for enhanced 3D audio recording capabilities.

While the Edge Sense technology aims to offer new ways to interact with the device, some users may find the concept gimmicky. The overall design echoes the HTC U Ultra with a glossy rear finish but introduces this novel touch-sensitive frame as a distinguishing trait.
