HTC has launched the Wildfire R70, a new entry-level smartphone targeted at the Indian and Thai markets. The device sports a 6.53-inch IPS LCD panel with an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1650 pixels and narrow bezels, except for a slightly thicker chin area. Under the hood, it is equipped with the MediaTek Helio P23 processor, paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, with support for microSD expansion.

On the photography front, the Wildfire R70 boasts a triple rear camera setup led by a 16MP primary sensor with a 1.4-micron pixel size and f/1.75 aperture, theoretically aiding performance in low-light conditions. This is supported by a 2MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor. The front camera is an 8MP shooter with an f/2.0 aperture. Despite these cameras, the overall specification sheet feels dated, including a 4,000 mAh battery that supports only 10W fast charging via a micro-USB port.

The device runs Android 9 with HTC Sense UI on top and offers standard connectivity features such as dual 4G, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi b/g/n, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. HTC has not yet announced pricing for the Wildfire R70, but given the fiercely competitive nature of the budget segment, the company will likely need to position it at a very aggressive price point to attract buyers.
