Key Takeaways

  • Expected price of NPR 33,000 to NPR 35,000, higher than the 3GB/32GB variant
  • Features a Kirin 655 octa-core processor, 12MP + 2MP rear cameras, and 8MP front camera
  • Includes a 3340mAh battery and fingerprint sensor for added security

Huawei is set to introduce a new variant of the GR5 2017 in Nepal, this time with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. While the exterior design remains unchanged from the existing model, the internal upgrades aim to give the device a competitive edge in the sub-35,000 NPR segment. The phone is expected to carry a price tag between NPR 33,000 and NPR 35,000, slightly above the current 3GB/32GB version.

The upgraded GR5 2017 retains its core specifications, including the HiSilicon Kirin 655 octa-core processor, a 5.5-inch FHD IPS display, a dual rear camera setup with a 12MP primary lens and a 2MP secondary lens, an 8MP front camera, and a non-removable 3340mAh battery. Additional features include hybrid SIM support, 4G VoLTE, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, and a fingerprint sensor.

When the original GR5 2017 launched three months ago, it was considered one of the best options under NPR 30,000. However, recent releases such as the Coolpad Cool1, Oppo F1s (4GB/64GB), and price adjustments for the OnePlus 2 have intensified competition in this price bracket. The upcoming Gionee A1 also threatens to enter this space. Therefore, the arrival of the higher-spec GR5 2017 variant is seen as a necessary move to maintain Huawei’s relevance in this crowded market.
