Huawei Debuts Flagship Mate 80 Pro Max in China With Premium Features

Huawei has officially launched the Mate 80 series in China, with the Mate 80 Pro Max positioned as the flagship model. This device brings together a range of high-end specifications and design elements, making it one of the most compelling offerings from the brand.

The Mate 80 Pro Max features a large 6.9-inch dual-layer OLED screen that delivers FHD+ resolution (2848 × 1320), a 1–120Hz LTPO refresh rate for smooth scrolling, and 1440Hz PWM dimming for consistent brightness control. The display supports over one billion colors with a wide P3 gamut and is protected by second-generation Kunlun Glass. The phone adopts a full-metal construction with a double-ring rear design, available in Polar Day Gold, Aurora Green/Blue, Polar Silver, and Polar Night Black color options. It carries an IP68 and IP69 rating for dust and water resistance, and measures 164.4 × 79 × 8.25mm while weighing around 239 grams.

Under the hood, the Mate 80 Pro Max is powered by the Kirin 9030 Pro chipset, the same processor found in the recently launched Mate X7. The device comes equipped with 16GB of RAM and offers storage options of either 512GB or 1TB, with no expandable memory support. It includes Huawei’s “Extreme Power Saving Mode” and supports satellite messaging through Tiantong and BeiDou systems for improved outdoor connectivity.

On the photography front, the Mate 80 Pro Max boasts a sophisticated quad-camera system. The rear setup includes a 50MP main camera with OIS and RYYB sensor technology, a 40MP ultra-wide lens, a 50MP macro telephoto camera with OIS, and a 50MP super telephoto camera also featuring OIS. This configuration enables up to 12.4x optical-quality zoom and 100x digital zoom, complemented by AI-enhanced photography modes for night, moon, and starry sky scenes. The front camera is a 13MP ultra-wide unit with 3D depth sensing capabilities, supporting 4K video recording, AI Dynamic Photos, portrait modes, slow motion, and time-lapse recording.

The device houses a substantial 6,000mAh dual-cell battery (5870mAh rated) that supports 100W wired SuperCharge, 18W reverse wired charging, and 80W Huawei Wireless SuperCharge with wireless reverse charging capabilities.

Connectivity options include dual Nano SIM support, Wi-Fi 2.4/5 GHz with EHT160, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, USB-C 3.1, and multi-band GPS. Security features consist of 3D Face recognition and side-mounted fingerprint sensing, along with standard orientation and proximity sensors. The phone runs on HarmonyOS 6.0 out of the box.

In China, the Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max is priced starting at CNY 7,999. Should it become available in Nepal, expectations are for the base 16GB + 512GB model to debut at approximately NPR 151,000, with the higher-storage variant priced around NPR 170,000.
