Huawei Unveils Mate 80 Pro with Enhanced Features and Performance

Huawei has launched the Mate 80 Pro in China, marking an upgrade to its flagship smartphone series. The Pro model builds on the standard Mate 80 with notable enhancements in performance, display quality, and camera capabilities.

The Mate 80 Pro retains Huawei’s distinctive design language, featuring a circular camera module branded with XMAGE. The device is constructed with an aluminum alloy frame and is protected by second-generation Kunlun glass on the front. It sports a large 6.75-inch 1.5K LTPO OLED display that adapts its refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz, delivering smooth scrolling and improved battery efficiency. The screen reaches an exceptional peak brightness of 8000 nits, ensuring excellent visibility even in direct sunlight. Additional display features include 1440Hz PWM dimming and a precise 300Hz touch sampling rate.

In the camera department, the Mate 80 Pro offers a solid setup with some adjustments over the standard model. The primary sensor remains a 50MP unit with a variable aperture, supported by a 40MP ultrawide lens. The key difference lies in the telephoto camera, where the Pro model features a 48MP sensor capable of 4x optical zoom, compared to the 12MP telephoto with 5.5x zoom on the regular Mate 80. This change prioritizes higher resolution over greater zoom range.

Under the hood, the Mate 80 Pro is powered by the advanced Kirin 9030/Pro chipset, a significant upgrade from the Kirin 9020 used in the standard version. This processor is paired with either 12GB or 16GB of RAM and storage options that range up to 1TB, depending on the configuration. The device runs on HarmonyOS 6.0 out of the box.

Battery life is handled by a robust 5750mAh cell, supporting fast 66W wired charging and convenient 50W wireless charging. Connectivity options are comprehensive, including Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, GPS, USB Type-C 3.1, and BDS Satellite Calling and Messaging, though the latter is currently limited to users in China.

If the Mate 80 Pro becomes available in Nepal, the base model with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage is expected to start at NPR 130,999. Higher configurations, including variants with 16GB RAM and up to 1TB of storage, are anticipated to be priced accordingly.
