Huawei Unveils Smart Hanhan: An AI-Driven Emotional Companion

Huawei has stepped into the AI companion space with the launch of the Smart Hanhan, a plush-based emotional support device. Introduced alongside the Mate 80 series in China, all three color variants quickly sold out on Huawei Mall. The Smart Hanhan measures 80 by 68 by 82 millimeters and weighs just 140 grams, constructed from a combination of soft plush fabric, silicone, and plastic. Unlike traditional smart speakers, its design focuses on building an emotional connection rather than functionality.

The companion runs on Huawei's Xiaoyi large-model AI, enabling natural and emotion-aware conversations. This AI can detect tone changes, emotional cues, and context, moving beyond simple keyword responses. Users can interact through voice commands, touch responses, and movement detection. For example, tapping or stroking its head changes facial expressions, while a gentle shake causes it to tremble with excitement.

A single 1,800 mAh battery provides 6 to 8 hours of continuous interaction or over 48 hours of casual use. Recharging takes approximately six hours. The device integrates exclusively with smartphones running HarmonyOS 5.0 or newer, including Mate 80 series models. This integration adds a diary system that logs emotional exchanges and daily interactions. The Smart Hanhan also includes a 3-month SVIP membership granting unlimited conversation energy points.

In China, the device launched at CNY 399. While its availability in Nepal is uncertain, if released, it could be priced at NPR 9,999 or higher.
