Lenovo Legion Play: A Potential Entry into the Android Cloud Gaming Console Market

Lenovo, already a strong presence in the gaming smartphone space, may soon expand into the console market with a device called the Legion Play. Reports and leaks suggest that this handheld console could challenge existing options like the Nintendo Switch and Valve's Steam Deck.

Key details emerging from leaks indicate that the Legion Play will run on Android, distinguishing it as the first console designed specifically for Android cloud gaming. It sports a 7-inch display with full HD resolution and HDR10 support. The control layout places gamepads on both sides of the screen, with two shoulder triggers for added gameplay control.

The console is equipped with dual speakers and dual vibration motors for an enhanced gaming experience, backed by a sizable 7000mAh battery that charges through a USB-C port located on the bottom. This port also accommodates an audio jack and a built-in microphone, useful for in-game voice communication. While it supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, cellular network support appears to be absent. Software-wise, the device shows compatibility with YouTube, Google Drive, Chrome, and notably, GeForce Now, NVIDIA's cloud gaming platform.

Originally scheduled for an unveiling at Mobile World Congress 2021, the Legion Play has yet to be officially launched or showcased. Lenovo has even removed related information from its Japanese and German websites, casting uncertainty over whether the product will actually reach consumers.
