LG Debuts CLOiD Home Robot at CES 2026

At CES 2026, LG has announced CLOiD, its first autonomous home robot built to manage a range of everyday household tasks. While robotic helpers have long focused on cleaning or basic navigation, CLOiD aims to go further by physically manipulating objects and coordinating activities across connected devices. LG positions the robot as part of a broader strategy to reduce manual labor around the home, though practical effectiveness remains to be seen.

Key Features and Design

The CLOiD robot is built around a wheeled base, chosen for better stability, simpler manufacturing, and reduced tipping risks in homes with children or pets. It uses navigation technology adapted from LG's existing robot vacuums and service robots. The robot’s torso can tilt, allowing it to reach from lower cabinets up to countertop level.

CLOiD features two articulated arms, each with seven degrees of freedom, designed to mimic the flexibility of a human arm. This enables the robot to reach, rotate, and reposition items in tight spaces. Each arm ends in a hand with five independently controlled fingers, intended for tasks such as handling dishes, folding clothes, and operating appliances. LG has not yet demonstrated how reliably these functions will perform in typical home settings.

Smart Interaction and AI

The robot’s head houses its main control and interaction system, including cameras, sensors, speakers, a display, and a central processing unit. LG says CLOiD can communicate using natural speech and facial expressions. The robot also uses voice-enabled generative AI to interpret commands and manage tasks, and it can learn household routines over time to optimize its behavior.

Integration with LG’s Smart Home Ecosystem

CLOiD’s capabilities are closely tied to LG’s ThinQ and ThinQ ON platforms. Through these systems, the robot can act as a mobile controller for compatible LG smart appliances, helping to coordinate and manage connected devices around the home.

Availability and Outlook

LG has not released any details regarding pricing, release dates, or performance benchmarks for CLOiD. The company also faces a significant challenge in making the robot reliable in unstructured home environments, a hurdle that has troubled the broader home robotics industry. As it stands, the technology is impressive, but its everyday appeal and practical utility remain uncertain for most users.
