Microsoft Launches Updated Surface Pro for 2017

Microsoft has introduced an updated version of its Surface Pro lineup, now simply called the new Surface Pro. While the exterior design remains similar to the previous model, the 2017 refresh brings substantial changes under the hood.

The most noticeable external update is the Alcantara Type Cover, though the majority of improvements lie inside. The device now utilizes Intel’s 7th-generation Kaby Lake processors, with options ranging from the Core m3 to the high-performance i7. Battery life has seen a dramatic increase to up to 13.5 hours, a major leap from the previous 8 hours, thanks to optimizations from the Windows 10 Creator Update, improved SSD integration, and a slightly larger battery. The m3 and i5 models feature fanless passive cooling, while the i7 retains a quiet fan-based system.

Creative professionals will appreciate the included Surface Pen and Surface Dial, sold separately. The new pen offers 4096 pressure levels and tilt sensing for more precise shading and inking effects. LTE connectivity is available for the first time, with models supporting both micro SIM and eSIM, though pricing and exact release dates for these versions have not yet been disclosed.

Key specifications include a 12.3-inch 2736x1824 PixelSense display, up to 16GB RAM, storage options up to 1TB SSD, and cameras including an 8.0MP rear and 5.0MP front sensor. Connectivity features include 4G LTE (optional), WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1, USB 3.0, microSD card reader, and Mini DisplayPort. The device measures 292 x 201 x 8.5 mm and weighs between 768g and 784g depending on the processor.

The new Surface Pro will be available starting June 15th, with prices beginning at $799.
