Motorola Debuts Razr Fold, Its First Book-Style Foldable Smartphone

Motorola has made a significant entrance into the foldable smartphone market with the Razr Fold, unveiled at CES 2026. This device marks the company’s first foray into book-style foldables, shifting away from its established reputation for flip-style clamshell phones. The Razr Fold directly challenges competitors such as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold, boasting superior display size and a robust camera array.

From the outside, the Razr Fold presents a sleek, slim profile with a 6.6-inch external display that functions like a standard flagship when folded. Upon unfolding, users are greeted with an impressive 8.09-inch LTPO inner display, offering 2K resolution and slightly surpassing the screen sizes of its rivals. The phone is available in two refined color options: Pantone Blackened Blue with a vegan leather matte finish and Pantone Lily White with a smooth, silky texture.

Durability remains a key concern for book-style foldables, given their larger size and heavier weight. While Motorola has extensive experience with hinge mechanisms from its flip phone lineup, the demands of a book-style design are more rigorous. Early leaks suggest the Razr Fold will feature a slimmer profile than some bulkier competitors, with a build that incorporates premium materials, including water resistance and durable hinges. However, definitive assessments will require hands-on reviews once units become available.

The camera system is another highlight, featuring a triple 50MP rear setup. This includes a main sensor utilizing Sony’s LYTIA sensor, a 50MP ultrawide/macro lens, and a 50MP 3x periscope telephoto camera. Motorola has optimized this system for enhanced brightness and color accuracy, with support for Dolby Vision video recording and advanced stabilization. For selfies, the device offers a 32MP camera on the external display and a 20MP camera on the internal display.

Given the expansive internal screen, the Razr Fold supports the Moto Pen Ultra stylus. This pressure-sensitive tool includes tilt detection and comes with a dedicated carrying case that also serves as a battery. The stylus enables AI-driven features such as handwriting beautification and Sketch to Image conversions. Notably, unlike Samsung’s S Pen, the Moto Pen Ultra does not slot into the phone and must be carried separately.

The phone also integrates Moto AI functionalities like Catch Me Up and Next Move, with potential access to Motorola Qira, the company’s upgraded AI platform.
