MSI Summit E15 Review: Premium Business Laptop with Strong Performance and Design Flaws

MSI has entered the competitive premium business laptop market with the Summit E15, a device that impresses in design and performance but stumbles in key usability areas. The Summit E15 A11SCS reviewed here features Intel's Tiger Lake Core i7-1185G7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti Max-Q graphics, a 15.6-inch 4K non-touch display, 16GB RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD, priced in Nepal at NPR 259,000.

The laptop boasts a lightweight aluminum build weighing just 1.65 kg and complies with MIL-STD-810G durability standards. The 4K IPS display offers 100% Adobe RGB coverage, excellent color accuracy, and anti-glare properties, making it suitable for photo and video editing. However, app scaling issues at 4K resolution were observed.

Typing on the backlit chiclet keyboard is comfortable with 1.5mm key travel, but the glass trackpad disappoints with plasticky button clicks, occasional scrolling issues, and an awkwardly placed fingerprint sensor. Performance is strong for everyday tasks and light gaming, with the Tiger Lake CPU and PCIe 4.0 SSD delivering fast app launches and multitasking. Gaming at 1080p yields stable frame rates in titles like Battlefield V and Valorant, though thermal management becomes evident during extended sessions.

Battery life under typical usage reaches around 6 hours, significantly less than the claimed 16+ hours, likely due to the power-hungry 4K display. The dual 2W speakers struggle with volume and clarity, especially when the laptop is flat, and the 720p IR webcam produces grainy images lacking detail.

While the Summit E15 presents a compelling combination of portability, display quality, and processing power, it faces stiff competition from established brands like Apple, Dell, and Lenovo. MSI needs to address the trackpad, audio, and battery life shortcomings to make a stronger impact in the premium business laptop segment.
