Nothing has officially unveiled its newest flagship true wireless earbuds, the Nothing Ear 3, succeeding last year's Nothing Ear model and distinct from the 2023 Ear 2. The earbuds feature a standout 'Super Mic' system designed for clearer communication in noisy environments.

The Ear 3 ships in a premium aluminum charging case, differing from the plastic casing of earlier models, while retaining a transparent top panel for brand visibility. The case integrates a Metal-Insulator-Metal antenna to boost signal strength. Both the earbuds and case carry an IP54 rating for dust and splash resistance and come in black and white color options.

A key highlight is the Super Mic functionality, which adds dual microphones inside the charging case alongside the three mics on each earbud. Pressing the TALK button on the case aims to reduce up to 95dB of ambient noise during calls. However, early reviews suggest the improvement may not match Nothing's claims. The system also supports voice recordings that sync with a smartphone's default notes app and, for Nothing phone users, can automatically transcribe notes through the Essential Space feature.

On the audio front, the Ear 3 upgrades to a larger 12mm dynamic driver, promising richer bass and clearer trebles. It supports spatial audio for an immersive 3D soundstage, though without head tracking, and works with AAC, SBC, and LDAC codecs, enabling hi-res 24-bit audio streaming via LDAC. Noise cancellation can suppress up to 45dB of ambient sound.

Battery life is modest; Nothing states 5.5 hours of playback with ANC enabled using AAC, dropping to 3.5 hours with LDAC. With the case, total playback reaches 22 hours with ANC on or 38 hours with ANC off. A quick 5-minute charge provides roughly 1 hour of use. Full wired charging via USB-C takes 70 minutes, while wireless charging needs 2 hours.

The Ear 3 carries over several features from its predecessor, such as in-ear detection that pauses playback when removed and resumes when reinserted. Nothing phone users can interact with ChatGPT directly through the earbuds or listen to Essential News readings. Pairing with the Nothing X app unlocks additional options, including a personalized sound profile, an 8-band equalizer for tailored audio, and customizable control settings.

Key specifications include dimensions of 30.5 x 21.5 x 20.75 mm, a weight of 5.2 grams per bud, 55 mAh battery per bud and a 500 mAh case, Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity with dual device support, low lag mode, in-ear detection, Google Fast Pair, and compatibility with both Android and iOS through the Nothing X app.

In the United States, the Nothing Ear 3 goes on sale starting September 25 for USD 179, positioning it USD 30 above its predecessor. Expect the model to arrive in Nepal soon at an estimated price of NPR 30,499.
