Key Takeaways

- Potential partnerships with firms like IMEI pay, Prabhu Technology, and CG PAY are under discussion
- NTC aims to become a major player in Nepal's digital transaction landscape
Nepal Telecom (NTC), currently the nation's most profitable government-owned company, is gearing up to expand into the digital payments sector. This move represents a strategic shift as NTC seeks to broaden its market presence beyond traditional telecommunications services. Digital payment solutions enable users to conduct online and offline transactions, transfer funds between banks, and more.
At present, several firms including eSewa, IMEI Digital, and Prabhu Technology operate under licenses from the Nepal Rastra Bank in this space. NTC is now poised to join this group. The company’s extensive network, which includes approximately 16 million customers (14 million GSM and 2 million CDMA users), positions it well to succeed in this new domain.
Interest in collaboration has already begun to surface. Companies such as IMEI pay, Prabhu Technology, and CG PAY have reportedly proposed joint venture alliances with NTC. However, NTC has yet to issue an official statement regarding these potential partnerships.
