The Realme C25Y enters the budget smartphone market with a mix of decent and disappointing features. While it provides respectable battery life and a comfortable textured design, its limitations in display quality, camera performance, and software functionality make it a less compelling option compared to nearby competitors.

Design and Build

Measuring 164.5 x 76 x 9.1mm and weighing 200 grams, the C25Y features a glass front with a plastic back and frame. The back sports a textured pattern that feels pleasant in hand, though the overall visual design may not appeal to everyone. The Glacier Blue variant shows a gradient shifting from bright blue at the bottom to light blue toward the top. A rear-mounted fingerprint sensor is present but lacks distinctive textures or grooves, making it sometimes hard to locate. Despite resisting smudges, the phone would benefit from an included protective case. At 200 grams, users will definitely notice its presence in their pockets.

Display

The display is a 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel with HD+ resolution (1600 x 720 pixels) and a water-drop notch for the front camera. While it reaches a peak brightness of 420 nits indoors, the HD+ resolution feels outdated at this price point, where FHD+ panels are becoming standard. Video streaming on platforms like YouTube or Netflix appears soft with subdued colors, and enabling 1080p mode on YouTube offers little improvement. Software and User Interface

The device runs Android 11 with Realme UI R Edition. This newest skin eliminates several convenient features found on previous Realme UIs, including quick app uninstall, a sidebar menu, split-screen view, a dedicated game mode, extensive dark theme customization, and the popular three-finger screenshot gesture. Portrait photos often appear hazy, with poor edge detection and a reddish tint on subjects. Macro shots show subdued colors but retain acceptable detail levels. Night photography suffers from grain and low detail, though enabling night mode improves sharpness and exposure slightly. Selfies exhibit extreme over-sharpening, muted backgrounds, and a pale or reddish cast on faces. Video recording tops out at 1080p at 30 frames per second without stabilization, resulting in shaky footage that also carries a warm tone and noticeable sharpening.

Battery and Charging

One bright spot is the sizable 5000mAh battery, which delivers roughly 7 to 8 hours of screen-on time under moderate to heavy use. Charging at 18W takes approximately 2 hours and 41 minutes to reach full capacity using the supplied adapter. However, a major setback is the use of a legacy Micro USB port instead of USB Type-A, making charging slower and less convenient compared to modern standards.

Audio

Audio output comes from a single mono speaker located on the back, which suffices for video playback but falls short for music listening. Most users will prefer headphones or a portable speaker for audio enjoyment. The phone retains a 3.5mm headphone jack for wired audio connections.

Overall, the Realme C25Y presents a collection of average to underwhelming features. Its attractive battery life and comfortable design are outweighed by a subpar HD+ display, inconsistent camera performance, limited software functionality, and the outdated Micro USB port. For buyers in Nepal, investing just INR 500 more to acquire the Redmi 10 Prime would provide a noticeably superior experience with an FHD+ display, better performance, and broader software support. At NPR 18,749, the C25Y struggles to justify its price against stronger alternatives on the market.
