Realme Enters the TV Market With New Smart Television Line

Key Takeaways

  • Realme will launch its first smart TV in India in Q2, likely April
  • The TV will support Realme Link, an app for controlling Realme IoT devices
  • Realme aims to become a major tech-lifestyle brand, competing with Xiaomi, OnePlus, Nokia, and Honor in the TV market

In recent years, major smartphone brands have diversified beyond mobile devices, offering a wide range of products including accessories, IoT gadgets, and more. Xiaomi has been a leader in this space, but other manufacturers are now following suit. Realme, which entered the market to challenge Xiaomi’s growth, particularly in South Asia, is preparing to expand into the television industry. The company is gearing up to introduce its own line of smart TVs, with an expected debut later this year.

According to Madhav Sheth, Realme’s CEO, the brand is aiming to become India’s largest tech-lifestyle brand under the slogan “Realme for Every Indian.” In addition to smartphones, Realme plans to focus on software development and IoT devices in 2020. The company has already teased its upcoming TV through social media, with Realme’s CMO, Francis Wang, acknowledging fan interest via Twitter. Realme’s official Twitter page also hinted at a product launch scheduled for February 24, though specific details remain scarce.

The upcoming Realme TV will be compatible with Realme Link, an app designed to act as a universal remote for Realme’s IoT devices. While exact specifications have not been revealed, the TV is expected to arrive in India during the second quarter of the year, potentially landing in April if plans stay on track. Realme’s entry into the TV market will place it in direct competition with Xiaomi, which already has a strong presence in the sector. Other brands such as OnePlus, Nokia, and Honor are also preparing their own television offerings, making the market increasingly competitive.

Additionally, Realme had planned to showcase new products at MWC 2020, including the Realme X50 Pro 5G. However, due to the cancellation of the event because of the COVID-19 outbreak, the company will instead hold an online launch. The event may also provide more details about other upcoming IoT devices, such as the Realme fitness band.
