Xiaomi Unveils Redmi A2 With MediaTek Helio G36 and Dual Cameras in Nepal

Xiaomi has officially launched the Redmi A2 in Nepal, positioning it as a budget-friendly upgrade to last year's Redmi A1. The new model improves mainly in processing power, while keeping much of the design and display from its predecessor.

The Redmi A2 measures 9.09 mm in thickness and weighs around 192 grams, with a leather-like finish on the back and three color options: Light Green, Light Blue, and Black. It sports the same 6.52-inch HD+ LCD panel as the Redmi A1, featuring a teardrop notch for the 5MP selfie camera.

The key upgrade lies in the MediaTek Helio G36 processor, a 12nm chipset with an octa-core CPU configuration: four Cortex-A53 cores at 2.2 GHz and four at 1.7 GHz, paired with the PowerVR GE8320 GPU. In contrast, the Redmi A1 used the older Helio A22 with a quad-core CPU at 2.0 GHz. Memory options include 2 or 3GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 32GB of eMMC 5.1 storage, expandable up to 1TB via a dedicated microSD card slot. The device runs Android 12 Go Edition and comes with a promised 2-year security update support.

Camera-wise, the Redmi A2 retains a dual-camera setup with an 8MP primary lens and a depth sensor, along with a 5MP front camera housed in the notch. Powering the phone is a sizable 5000mAh battery, supporting 10W charging through a Micro USB port, and the box includes a matching 10W charger. Additional features include a 3.5mm headphone jack and FM radio support.

Officially priced at NPR 10,499 for the single 2/32GB variant, the Redmi A2 is available now at Xiaomi-authorized stores across Nepal, backed by a 2-year warranty.
