Redmi Gaming Monitor G24 Review: A Budget-Friendly Gaming Experience

The Redmi Gaming Monitor G24 from Xiaomi is turning heads in the budget monitor market, offering surprisingly robust specifications for its incredibly low price tag. Normally, affordable gaming monitors cut corners on crucial features like refresh rate, color accuracy, and build quality, but this model breaks that mold.

Priced at just $90 in China and Rs. 24,999 in Nepal, the G24 boasts a 24-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) VA panel with a smooth 165Hz refresh rate, 1ms MPRT response time, and support for both AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G-Sync technologies. It even includes HDR10 certification, which is rare at this price point.

In my time using the monitor, I found its design to be simple but effective. While it lacks flashy RGB lighting, the metal base stand feels sturdy and includes a cable management buckle. The monitor features one HDMI port, one DisplayPort, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, along with a joystick for navigating the on-screen menu. It does not have USB-C ports or height adjustability, though the fixed height worked well for my setup.

The display itself exceeded my expectations. Despite being a budget option, it covers approximately 99% of the sRGB color space and 90% of the P3 gamut, making it suitable not just for gaming but also for basic photo editing. Users can switch to an sRGB picture mode for enhanced color accuracy during editing tasks. The monitor can reach a brightness of 327 nits, which is higher than the advertised 300 nits, and its matte finish helps reduce glare in brightly lit rooms.

One notable downside of the VA panel is its narrower viewing angles, though this trade-off results in an impressive 3200:1 contrast ratio, which is excellent for gaming. The monitor lacks built-in speakers, so external audio solutions are required.

When it comes to gaming performance, the 165Hz refresh rate combined with Adaptive Sync delivers exceptionally smooth gameplay in most titles. My team and I tested it with FPS games like Valorant and CS:GO, which easily surpassed 165 frames per second on our setups. The monitor handled these frames without any tearing thanks to its seamless FreeSync and G-Sync compatibility, which works straight out of the box by simply enabling Adaptive Sync in the OSD settings.

However, I did notice some ghosting in fast-paced games such as Forza Horizon and Overwatch 2. Although Redmi advertises a 1ms MPRT response time and offers four different modes to choose from, ghosting was still present across all settings. This isn't deal-breaking for most users, especially in slower-paced games like Control or GTA V, but gamers who prioritize ultra-responsive performance might want to consider a higher-end model like the MSI Optix G241.

Overall, the Redmi Gaming Monitor G24 is an outstanding value proposition for anyone on a tight budget. It provides a smooth gaming experience with its high refresh rate and Adaptive Sync support, while also serving well for everyday computing tasks. At the moment, it is officially available only in China, but it can be purchased internationally through AliExpress. Be aware that adding shipping, insurance, and taxes may increase the final cost significantly. Xiaomi has released other gaming monitors globally, such as the Mi 2K Gaming Monitor 27-inch and the Mi Curved Gaming Monitor 34-inch, so there is hope for a future international release of the G24.
