Redmi Note 9 Pro Max Long-Term Review: A Solid Mid-Range Contender

The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max stands out as one of Xiaomi's most popular offerings in the value-driven smartphone market. Known for delivering strong performance and durability at an accessible price, this device continues that tradition with a few notable upgrades and some persistent limitations.

Design and build quality remain a highlight, with a glass front and back protected by Gorilla Glass 5, giving the phone a premium feel despite its plastic frame. The device is available in Glacier White, Aurora Blue, and Interstellar Black, and includes a P2i nano-coating for water resistance. While the build is solid and the fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate, the phone does feel a bit bulky at 209 grams.

The 6.67-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display offers decent brightness and color vibrancy, with HDR10 and Widevine L1 support for streaming content. The software experience is powered by MIUI 12 on Android 10, with an update to Android 11 expected soon. The interface brings a fresh control center inspired by iPadOS, though occasional bugs and ad-laden native apps can detract from the experience.

Camera performance is decent but not class-leading. The quad-camera setup includes a 64MP primary lens, an 8MP ultra-wide, a 5MP macro, and a 2MP depth sensor. While the main camera produces bright and vibrant images, the ultra-wide lens lacks detail and dynamic range.
