Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Review: A Refined But Uninspired Foldable

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 arrives with a set of meaningful upgrades, yet it feels like a cautious step rather than a bold leap forward for the foldable space. Building on its predecessors, the device introduces a more durable build with an IP48 dust and splash resistance rating, brighter and sharper displays, and a refined hinge design. However, when placed alongside increasingly innovative competitors, the Z Fold 6 struggles to stand out as a groundbreaking choice.

Design and durability have seen noticeable improvements, with a boxier, angular silhouette that feels more robust and a lighter, more compact form factor. The addition of Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both the front and back, along with enhanced armor aluminum frames, contributes to a more resilient device. For the first time in the foldable market, Samsung has included an IP48 rating, offering basic dust protection, though users still need to handle the phone with care.

Display quality remains a highlight, with a 6.3-inch HD+ AMOLED outer screen and a spacious 7.6-inch QXGA+ AMOLED inner display, both running at a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Visibility has improved, with peak brightness reaching 2600 nits in HDR mode, and the crease on the inner display, while still present, is less intrusive in everyday use. The cover display adopts a more practical 22:9 aspect ratio, making one-handed operation more comfortable.

Under the hood, the Z Fold 6 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, delivering swift performance for multitasking and gaming. Samsung has committed to seven years of software and security updates, ensuring long-term usability. The phone also integrates Galaxy AI features, such as real-time translation and summarization tools, which can be processed on-device for enhanced privacy.

Battery life, however, remains a concern. The 4400 mAh battery, unchanged from earlier models, lasts around six hours of typical use, and charging is limited to 25W wired speeds. Wireless charging is available at 15W, but the overall endurance does not match the phone's premium positioning.

Camera capabilities are carried over from the Galaxy Z Fold 4, with a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide, and 10MP telephoto lens. While image quality is solid with vibrant colors and good detail, the system lacks the advanced computational photography and lens flexibility found in Samsung's non-folding flagships. Video recording is stable, but switching between lenses during 4K 60fps capture is not supported.

Priced from NPR 164,999 for the 12/256GB variant and NPR 179,999 for the 12/512GB model, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is a well-built and capable device, but it lacks the excitement and innovation that other brands are now delivering in the foldable space. For users seeking the best that the form factor has to offer, alternative options may present stronger value and fresh ideas.
