Tecno has officially launched the Camon 50 in Kenya as the successor to last year's Camon 40. The new model retains a similar overall design while enhancing several key areas, including the display refresh rate, battery size, and software.
The Camon 50 features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution and a smooth 144Hz refresh rate, an improvement over the Camon 40's 120Hz AMOLED panel with standard FHD+ resolution. Despite the screen size remaining unchanged, users benefit from both higher resolution and a faster refresh rate. The phone maintains a slim profile at 7.53 mm and is available in multiple color options, including Moonlight Black, Malachite Green, and Lavender Mist.
Under the hood, the Camon 50 runs on the MediaTek Helio G200 Ultimate processor, replacing the Helio G100 Ultimate from the Camon 40. However, both chips are 4G processors, so this update does not represent a major leap in performance. While functional for everyday tasks, these processors are not ideal for demanding gaming applications.
On the software front, the upgrade is more noticeable, as the Camon 50 ships with HiOS 16 based on Android 16 out of the box. Connectivity features remain largely unchanged, including support for NFC, an IR blaster, FM radio, and USB-C with OTG.
Camera hardware remains consistent between the two generations. The Camon 50 retains the 50MP main sensor with optical image stabilization and an 8MP ultrawide lens, mirroring the Camon 40's setup. The selfie camera also stays at 32MP, indicating no significant spec improvements in the photography department.
One of the most notable upgrades is the battery capacity, which increases substantially to 6,150mAh in the Camon 50, up from 5,200mAh in the Camon 40. However, the charging speed remains at 45W wired. Tecno also claims that the device will offer over five years of durability. Audio features dual speakers with Dolby Atmos support, and the phone includes a comprehensive set of sensors such as a compass and geomagnetic sensor.
In Kenya, the Tecno Camon 50 is priced at KES 34,999 and will go on sale starting February 23. If the device makes its way to Nepal, the expected starting price is NPR 25,999 for the 8GB/128GB variant.
