Key Takeaways

  • Priced at NPR 55,999 expected in Nepal, the LinkStation offers robust 850W PSU and Oculink connectivity
  • Supports full-size GPUs up to 370mm from NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel
  • Delivers approximately 87% of desktop performance with an RTX 5090 via Oculink
  • Includes PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, semi-open aluminum design, and weighs 5.08kg

UGREEN, traditionally recognized for its chargers and power banks, has expanded into new territory with the launch of the LinkStation eGPU Dock. This substantial external GPU enclosure enables users to connect full-size desktop graphics cards to laptops, handheld gaming devices, or compact mini PCs.

The LinkStation features a semi-open aluminum construction that tips the scales at 5.08 kilograms, built to house full-length graphics cards and a substantial power supply. The enclosure is compatible with GPUs measuring up to 370 millimeters, covering most contemporary options from NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel.

For connectivity, the device provides two pathways: Oculink, which delivers 64 gigabits per second, and USB4 at 40 gigabits per second. Oculink, a PCIe-based standard, offers faster and more stable bandwidth compared to Thunderbolt solutions, while USB4 ensures broader device compatibility and includes 100W reverse charging for laptops.

Powering the system is an 850W ATX 3.1 Gold-rated power supply unit, ample for driving high-end graphics cards such as the NVIDIA RTX 5090, which has a thermal design power of 575 watts, or the RTX 4090 at 450 watts. Inside, the enclosure includes a PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, the standard interface for modern graphics cards. The package comes with an 0.8-meter USB4 cable and a 0.5-meter Oculink cable.

Performance tests conducted by UGREEN using the Port Royal benchmark show promising results. An RTX 5090 operating in a desktop configuration achieved a score of 34,508, while the same GPU connected via Oculink to a laptop scored 30,164, representing about 87 percent of desktop performance. While direct PCIe on a desktop remains the fastest option, this setup presents a compelling balance for laptop users, outperforming older Thunderbolt 3 eGPU solutions that often managed only 70 to 75 percent of desktop performance.

The UGREEN LinkStation eGPU Dock is currently priced at CNY 2,299 in China, with an expected launch price in Nepal starting at NPR 55,999 should it become available.
