Nagarik App Now Supports Online Vehicle Tax Payments

Key Takeaways

  • The Nagarik App now includes a Vehicle Tax option for online payments
  • Currently available only for vehicles registered in Bagmati province
  • Users need to update the app and enter vehicle details to complete the payment

New Vehicle Tax Payment Feature in Nagarik App

The Nagarik App, launched by the Nepalese government to bring essential services directly to citizens, has rolled out a new feature that allows users to pay vehicle taxes online. This addition joins other services such as PAN registration and Malpot, offering a convenient way for citizens to manage administrative tasks from their phones.

How It Works

For users with vehicles registered in Bagmati province, the app now displays a Vehicle Tax option. To get started, users should either update their existing app or download it fresh from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. After logging in, they must navigate to the Vehicle Tax section on the home screen.

Before proceeding, users must ensure they have completed all necessary steps to enroll in the app. The process then requires entering specific details, including the province, vehicle type, and lot number. Once this information is submitted, the app calculates the applicable tax amount, which users can pay directly through the platform.

Current Limitations

At this stage, the service is limited to vehicles registered in Bagmati province. Citizens from the other six provinces will need to wait for the feature to expand to their regions. For now, only those with vehicles registered at the Transport Management Office in Bagmati can take advantage of this digital service.

Looking Ahead

While this is a promising step toward a more efficient, paperless governance system, broader adoption will depend on government offices and institutions accepting the app as a valid document. There have been reports of some offices still requiring physical documentation despite the app’s availability. Full realization of a paperless system will require resolving these inconsistencies and ensuring widespread recognition of the Nagarik App across all sectors.
