Vivo Shifts Global Strategy with OriginOS 6 Launch

Key Takeaways

  • Vivo replaces Funtouch OS with OriginOS 6 globally, featuring new AI capabilities and a redesigned interface
  • OriginOS 6 debuts in China on October 10, with a global release scheduled for October 15
  • Initial updates target devices such as the Vivo X Fold5, X200 series and iQOO 13 and Neo 10 series

Vivo is making a major shift in its software strategy by replacing Funtouch OS with OriginOS 6 for its global smartphones. For years, Vivo ran Funtouch OS worldwide while its Chinese models used the more polished OriginOS. Now, the company confirms that OriginOS 6 will power Vivo and iQOO phones internationally.

Vivo’s CTO, Shi Yujian, confirmed the move, and the Funtouch OS India account on X has already changed its name to OriginOS. In China, OriginOS 6—built on Android 16—will launch alongside the Vivo X300 series. While it is unclear if the global version will include Google Mobile Services, users can expect a redesigned interface with expanded customization, smoother animations, and new AI-driven features similar to those in Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3.

The new OS adopts a transparent aesthetic inspired by Apple’s iOS 26, using three-layer shading technology to improve real-time blur effects and enhance color vibrancy. Users will also find updated lock screen options, a redesigned control center, and refined system animations.

OriginOS 6 will first appear in China on October 10, with a global rollout set for October 15. The first devices to receive the update include the Vivo X Fold5, X200, X200s, X200 Pro, X200 Pro Mini, X200 Ultra, and iQOO models such as the iQOO 13, Neo 10, Neo 10 Pro, and Neo 10 Pro+. A full list of compatible devices is expected soon.
