Vivo V27e Review: Should You Buy It for NPR 42,000?

Vivo recently introduced the V27 and V27e in Nepal. We previously reviewed the V27, and now we examine the V27e, a mid-range smartphone retailing for NPR 42,000 for the single 8/128GB variant available locally. Known for emphasizing design and camera quality, Vivo continues this focus with the V27e, showcasing a striking back panel and a 64MP camera setup. However, does it justify its price point? Let’s explore its features and performance.

Design and Display

The V27e mirrors the V27’s design language, adopting a boxy form factor. The Lavender Purple variant stands out with a feather-inspired back design, and the camera module presents a sleek, premium appearance. It features an Aura Ring Light for the flash, though it lacks a headphone jack. The phone sports a 6.62-inch AMOLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, delivering deep blacks and vivid colors. While the screen provides a bright viewing experience, the color accuracy could be improved. Despite this, the 120Hz refresh rate ensures smooth scrolling and overall responsiveness.

Performance

Powering the V27e is the MediaTek Helio G99 chipset, a mid-range 4G processor found in devices like the Poco M5 and Realme 10, which are available for around NPR 30,000. It handles everyday tasks adequately, but gaming performance is disappointing. Titles such as PUBG Mobile manage only about 40 frames per second, and Call of Duty Mobile caps at 30 frames per second on the lowest settings. For gamers, alternatives like the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G, featuring a Dimensity 1080 chipset, deliver a far superior experience at a similar price.

Software

The V27e runs Android 13 with Vivo’s Funtouch OS 13. Although not universally favored, the interface remains relatively clean, with minimal pre-installed apps. Vivo has limited additional software to LinkedIn, TikTok, and Spotify, avoiding excessive bloatware common in some competitors. This results in a smoother, more user-friendly experience.

Camera

A triple-camera setup includes a 64MP primary sensor alongside 2MP depth and macro lenses. Daylight photos tend toward saturation with slight reddish hues, and dynamic range is moderate. Portrait shots often misrepresent skin tones, and low-light images, despite a dedicated night mode and optical image stabilization, remain merely acceptable. Selfies are decent but exhibit minor white balance issues. Video recording supports up to 1080p at 60 frames per second, though stabilization activates only in 1080p at 30 frames per second, leading to noticeable jitter.

Battery

The V27e houses a 4600mAh battery, sufficient for a day of moderate use. Heavy usage may drain it faster, but the included 66W fast charger can replenish the device to 50% in about 19 minutes, reaching a full charge in under an hour. The phone supports 4G bands 3 and 20, enabling NTC network access in rural areas, and it includes VoLTE for high-definition calls on both NTC and Ncell networks.

Verdict

The Vivo V27e presents an attractive design, a vibrant display, and a clean OS, making it a reasonable choice for users who prioritize style and everyday functionality over performance. However, the Helio G99 chipset and average camera output limit its appeal, especially for gamers. At this price point, alternatives like the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G offer superior performance. If you avoid intensive gaming and seek a sleek, well-rounded device, the V27e may satisfy your needs.
