Nepal Telecom's VoLTE Service and Made in India Phones

Nepal Telecom has officially rolled out its VoLTE (Voice over LTE) service in Nepal. Despite recent rumors claiming that phones made in India cannot utilize this service, the reality is more nuanced.

Currently, only a select group of devices can access VoLTE. Nepal Telecom has confirmed that the following models are compatible: various Samsung Galaxy M, A, S, Note, and Z series phones, Xiaomi Redmi and Mi series devices, and several Nokia models. This initial rollout is limited, but the telecom provider plans to broaden support to additional handsets soon.

A key point for consumers is that Indian-made smartphones can indeed use VoLTE, provided they support either Band 20 (800MHz) or Band 3 (1800MHz) frequencies. While Nepalese 4G networks use both bands, Indian phones typically support Band 3. This means that even devices imported from India can access VoLTE services as long as they are on the approved list and compatible with at least one of the required bands.

In short, there is no blanket incompatibility. Users should verify if their device model is on Nepal Telecom's supported list and ensure it works with either Band 20 or Band 3 frequencies.
