Xiaomi 15T Pro Review: A Budget-Friendly Powerhouse

Over the past two weeks, I've thoroughly tested the Xiaomi 15T Pro, Xiaomi's latest affordable flagship device. Priced competitively at approximately 90,000 NPR in Nepal (expected), it aims to fill a noticeable gap between the brand's flagship and mid-range offerings. The phone delivers strong performance, impressive photography capabilities, and a premium design, though it does have a few drawbacks.

Design and Build The Xiaomi 15T Pro impresses with its solid construction and balanced design. Inspired by Apple's aesthetics, it features flat frames and a sleek display, available in a subtle bronze color that avoids excessive attention. Despite its sizable dimensions (162.7 × 77.9 × 7.96mm, 210g), Xiaomi has managed weight distribution well. The phone carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, allowing submersion up to 3 meters for 30 minutes, surpassing even some flagship models. However, the front protection uses Gorilla Glass 7i, which is prone to scratches, while the back relies on a fiber glass cover whose durability remains uncertain.

Display The display stands out as a major strength. Its 6.83-inch AMOLED panel boasts a smooth 144Hz refresh rate, 1.5K resolution (2772×1280), and peak brightness reaching 3200 nits for HDR content. Visibility outdoors is excellent, with auto brightness peaking near 1400 nits. The screen supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, delivering vibrant colors and accurate calibration. PWM dimming at 3840 Hz ensures comfort in low light, and flicker during HDR playback was minimal and infrequent.

Performance Performance is where the Xiaomi 15T Pro truly excels. Equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ chipset, it handles multitasking, gaming, and demanding applications effortlessly. Thermal management is effective, with vapor chamber cooling and graphite sheets preventing throttling during extended use. Gaming performance matches or exceeds more expensive rivals like the iPhone 17 and OnePlus 13, with stable frame rates in titles such as PUBG and Genshin Impact. The only notable heat buildup occurred during prolonged 4K video recording outdoors.

Haptics and Audio Haptic feedback feels crisp, though some may desire more impact during calls. The stereo speakers deliver adequate volume and clarity for multimedia but lack depth compared to higher-end models.

Battery and Charging A 5500mAh Li-Ion battery provides more than a day's use, though enthusiasts might prefer the silicon-carbon option found in cheaper Xiaomi models like the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus. Charging at 90W is swift, achieving a full charge in about 1 hour and 20 minutes with a compatible PD charger, though the phone ships without one.

Software The device runs Xiaomi's HyperOS, with an OTA update to HyperOS 3 (Android 16) promised soon. While stable, the absence of the latest OS at launch feels like a missed opportunity for a phone positioned as a flagship contender.

Cameras Photography strengths include Leica optimization and a versatile 5x periscope telephoto lens, unique in this price bracket. The main 50MP Omnivision Light Fusion 900 sensor produces vibrant, detailed images, though contrast can sometimes overshoot. Night shots are sharp and well-balanced, while the ultrawide lens offers decent but unremarkable results. Selfies are adequate, with good sharpness but slightly off color accuracy. Video capabilities are strong, supporting up to 8K at 30fps and 4K at 120fps from the main lens, though stabilization at 120fps needs improvement.

Verdict The Xiaomi 15T Pro emerges as a compelling "flagship killer," combining top-tier performance, a high-refresh-rate display, and a versatile camera system in a competitively priced package. Minor drawbacks like the battery chemistry and software update timing are overshadowed by its overall value. For users seeking premium features without flagship pricing, it represents a strong contender in Nepal's market.
