Xiaomi 17 Pro Max Debuts With Massive 7,500mAh Battery and Expanded Display

Xiaomi has introduced the 17 Pro Max, the latest addition to its high-end smartphone lineup. This model expands on the capabilities of the regular 17 Pro with a larger battery, expanded display area, and enhanced camera features, positioning it as a direct competitor to premium devices like the iPhone 17 Pro Max and Galaxy S25 Ultra.

The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max measures 162.9 by 77.6 by 8 millimeters and weighs 219 grams, making it noticeably heavier than the standard Pro model but retaining a slim, premium design. It features Xiaomi's Dragon Crystal Glass 3 on the front, an upgrade from the standard Dragon Crystal Glass used on other models in the series. The phone follows the flat, iPhone-inspired design language seen across the 17 series, with a rectangular camera module that houses both the triple camera system and a 2.9-inch secondary display. Available colors include Black, Cold Smoke Purple, Forest Green, and White.

Display capabilities represent a major step forward. The primary screen measures 6.9 inches and utilizes M10 LTPO AMOLED technology with 12-bit color support, which improves color gradation and reduces banding compared to the 6.3-inch display on the regular Pro. The secondary display has also been expanded from 2.7 to 2.9 inches, with a resolution increase to 976 by 596 pixels. Both screens achieve a peak brightness of 3,500 nits and support variable refresh rates from 1 to 120Hz using DC dimming. The Pro Max carries an IP68 water resistance rating, claiming the ability to withstand submersion up to 6 meters in fresh water, deeper than the 4-meter rating of the standard Pro.

The standout feature is the massive 7,500mAh battery, marketed by Xiaomi as "practically a power bank." The battery employs silicon-carbon technology in an L-shaped design to maximize space without excessive thickness. Charging remains at 100W wired and 50W wireless, identical to the regular Pro. The Surge G2 battery management chip is included, promising to retain at least 80 percent capacity after 2,000 charge cycles.

Camera specifications see some notable improvements over the regular Pro. The main camera remains a 50MP Light Fusion 950L sensor with a Leica Summilux lens and optical image stabilization, but adds LOFIC HDR technology. The telephoto camera upgrades from a smaller Samsung JN5 sensor to a larger 50MP Samsung ISOCELL GN8, offering a brighter f/2.6 aperture compared to f/3.0 on the Pro, which benefits low-light performance. Both models provide 5x optical zoom, but the Pro Max can focus as close as 30 centimeters for macro shots, compared to 20 centimeters on the standard Pro. The ultrawide camera stays at 50MP with a 102-degree field of view, and the front camera remains a 50MP OmniVision OV50M.

Performance is handled by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, which has demonstrated AnTuTu scores around 4 to 4.4 million, capable of handling current games at maximum settings. Thermal management has been enhanced with a larger 5,533mm² vapor chamber compared to the 4,637mm² version on the regular Pro. Memory configurations include options up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and storage peaking at 1TB.

Software runs on Android 16-based HyperOS 3, featuring the same secondary display functionality as the regular Pro. Users can customize themes, receive notifications, access AI Pin shortcuts, and preview selfies using the main cameras. The larger secondary display provides a more comfortable experience for reading notifications and controlling music playback compared to the smaller screen on the Pro.

Security includes an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, and connectivity options cover Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth, 5G, GPS, NFC, USB Type-C, and UWB. The device carries an IP68 rating for water resistance.

In terms of pricing and availability, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max starts at CNY 6,000 (approximately $840) for the 12GB/512GB variant in China. For the Nepalese market, the base model is expected to launch around NPR 127,000, with higher configurations reaching NPR 148,000 for the 16GB/1TB model.
