Sony Unveils Compact Xperia X With 4.6-inch Display

At IFA 2016, Sony has introduced the Xperia X Compact, a budget-friendly smartphone that serves as a smaller, more affordable cousin to the flagship Xperia XZ. Launched alongside the flagship, this device inherits many of its features while offering a compact form factor.

The Xperia X Compact sports a 4.6-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a pixel density of 319 ppi. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor, coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which can be expanded via a microSD card up to 256GB. The phone includes a 23MP rear camera with an IMX300 sensor, featuring an f/2.0 aperture, laser and phase detection autofocus, while the front camera is a 5MP shooter.

Equipped with a non-removable 2700mAh battery, the device supports Quick Charge 3.0 and uses a USB Type-C reversible connector. It runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, with a planned upgrade to Android 7.0 Nougat. The Adreno 510 GPU ensures smooth performance for gaming and multitasking.

Despite its merits, such as a solid battery life and decent performance, the decision to use a 720p display may disappoint some users, especially when competitors offer sharper screens in similarly priced devices. However, the compact design and capable hardware could make it an appealing option for those who prefer smaller, portable smartphones.

The Xperia X Compact will be available in three color options: Universe Black, Mist Blue, and White. Although the official price has not yet been announced, it is expected to position the device above $300, placing it in competition with other popular brands like OnePlus, Alcatel, Moto, and ZTE.
