Apple Reveals Innovative Curved Glass Design for Future iMac in New Patent

Apple’s iMac, introduced in 1998, has become an iconic all-in-one desktop known for its sleek design and the introduction of the 'i' suffix used across Apple products. Despite its lasting influence, the iMac’s design has seen minimal changes over the past decade. However, a recent patent filed by Apple in May 2019 and recently uncovered suggests a major shift is on the horizon.

Titled “Electronic Device with Glass Housing Member,” the patent illustrates a future iMac with a single curved glass body. This design incorporates three main sections: a display area, an input area, and a transition portion connecting the two. The display will utilize an OLED screen, while the lower input area will feature an integrated keyboard and touchpad. Notably, the keyboard will be detachable, and the input section can be folded, offering potential portability benefits.

The glass housing is described as capable of various finishes, including transparent, coated, painted, or treated for a frosted or textured look. While Apple may not implement this design immediately, the patent signals a possible direction for future iMac models. Though the current design remains popular, the proposed curved glass concept introduces an intriguing evolution that could refresh the iMac’s visual and functional appeal.
