Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Shows Superior Durability in Rigorous Drop Tests

Smartphones today face constant exposure to everyday hazards, from being stuffed alongside keys to accidental drops. As these devices become essential companions, manufacturers emphasize durability, often highlighting advanced materials. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20 Ultra stands out by incorporating Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, marketed as the strongest smartphone glass available.

Corning Gorilla Glass Victus represents an evolution over the previous Gorilla Glass 6. This aluminosilicate glass undergoes rigorous testing, including drops from 2 meters and a Knoop hardness rating of 8N, which measures resistance to scratching. By comparison, older glasses typically score between 2N and 4N. Lab results indicate that Victus can endure an average of 20 drops from 1 meter, a 25 percent improvement over its predecessor.

To assess real-world performance, the Note 20 Ultra was put through a series of drop tests alongside the iPhone 11 Pro Max. When dropped from 1 meter onto concrete, the Note 20 Ultra showed only minor cracks on the back, while its screen remained largely unscathed. In contrast, the iPhone 11 Pro Max sustained significant damage. Even in corner drop scenarios, the advantage leaned toward the iPhone, but the difference was marginal. Further testing from a height of 1.45 meters, repeated ten times, confirmed the Note 20 Ultra’s superior resilience, accumulating only light scratches, whereas the iPhone 11 Pro Max suffered major functional impairments.

While laboratory conditions cannot fully replicate every real-life scenario, the Note 20 Ultra’s construction gives it an edge in durability. For Nepali consumers, the device is currently available for pre-booking, and a one-year breakage insurance policy offers additional peace of mind.
