GoPro has announced the Max2 360, touting it as the world's most durable True 8K 360 camera. The device offers a substantial upgrade over its predecessor, the original Max, with several new capabilities that aim to enhance both video and audio capture in extreme conditions.

The Max2 360 features a 1/2.3-inch sensor that records True 8K 360-degree video at 30 frames per second, claiming a 21 percent higher resolution than its closest rivals. It supports 10-bit color depth, covering over one billion colors, and includes GP-Log for extended dynamic range and better post-production flexibility. Users can capture 29-megapixel 360-degree still images, providing ample detail for cropping and reframing without quality loss. For those wanting even higher performance, GoPro Labs firmware unlocks recording at up to 300 megabits per second bitrate.

A standout feature is the twist-and-go replaceable lens system, allowing users to swap lenses without tools or recalibration. Constructed from water-repelling optical glass, the lenses feature a low-profile, aerodynamic design ideal for mounting on poles, helmets, or vehicles. Although the camera weighs 195 grams, this is typical for its ruggedized build intended for harsh environments.

The Max2 360 includes Max HyperSmooth stabilization and 360-degree horizon steadying to eliminate camera shake. It also offers AI-powered object tracking and MotionFrame editing, where users can edit footage by moving their smartphone. Traditional capture styles are supported through POV and selfie video modes when full 360-degree recording is not required.

An advanced six-microphone system delivers industry-leading 360 audio, with features such as Audio Field-of-View for focusing on specific directions and wind-noise reduction. Ambisonic audio support will arrive via a future update, improving spatial audio quality. The camera also features Bluetooth audio connectivity for monitoring purposes.

Powering the device is a 1960 mAh Cold-Weather Enduro battery built for extreme temperatures, though GoPro has not disclosed exact recording times for 8K footage. The camera is waterproof to a depth of five meters without any housing and includes built-in GPS, making it the only 360 camera with this feature.

For mounting, the Max2 360 offers a standard 1/4-20 tripod thread, a built-in folding finger mount, and a new magnetic latch system introduced with the Hero 13 Black. It also supports the “invisible pole” mounting technique, which removes mounting sticks from the 360-degree footage. GoPro is launching sixteen new accessories specifically designed for 360 cameras.

Key specifications include a 1/2.3-inch sensor, True 8K 360 video recording at 30fps, 29MP 360 still photos, up to 300Mbps bitrate with GoPro Labs firmware, Max HyperSmooth and 360 horizon steady stabilization, a six-mic audio array with Audio Field-of-View and wind-noise reduction, AI object tracking and MotionFrame editing, twist-and-go replaceable lenses, a 1960 mAh Cold-Weather Enduro battery, waterproofing to five meters, built-in GPS, Bluetooth audio support, and a weight of 195 grams. Storage uses microSD cards, with high capacity needed for 8K recording.

Globally, the GoPro Max2 360 is priced at $499.99 for the standard model and $599.99 for the bundle. In Nepal, the expected starting price is around NPR 80,000 for the standard version, with the bundle likely to reach approximately NPR 95,000 when it becomes available.
