Insta360 X4 Air Arrives as the Lightest 8K 360 Degree Action Camera

Insta360 has just launched the X4 Air, positioning it as the lightest 8K 360 degree action camera available. This model sits below the X4 in the company's lineup and brings a more compact and portable design while maintaining high-end capabilities. The X4 Air is now available in the US and will soon reach the Nepalese market.

Design and Build

The X4 Air boasts a sleek, minimalist design consistent with the X5 series. It measures 46 by 113.8 by 37 millimeters and weighs only 165 grams, making it 38 grams lighter than the original X4. The camera comes in two color options: Graphite Black and Arctic White. It is waterproof up to a depth of 15 meters or 49 feet. Importantly, the X4 Air is compatible with most Insta360 X5 accessories, making it a convenient upgrade for existing users.

Camera Sensors and Performance

Equipped with dual 1/1.8-inch CMOS sensors, each sensor has a resolution of 29 megapixels and an aperture of f/1.95, paired with a 6.4mm equivalent focal length. The camera utilizes Insta360's AdaptiveTone intelligent exposure algorithm, which automatically balances highlights and shadows across varying lighting conditions. Video recording supports up to 8K resolution at 30 frames per second in 360 degrees.

The X4 Air records video in both H.264 and H.265 formats and offers multiple color profiles including Vivid, Standard, Flat, and I-Log to accommodate different post-production workflows. Photo modes include standard photo, HDR photo, interval shooting, starlapse, and burst shooting.

Battery Life and Recording Duration

Powered by a 2,010mAh battery, the X4 Air can record for up to 105 minutes at 6K 24fps. When recording at the higher 8K 30fps setting, battery life decreases to approximately 88 minutes. The camera can charge to 80 percent in 36 minutes and fully charge in 57 minutes using a 9V 2A charger.

Video Features and Modes

The X4 Air includes most of the advanced features found in the flagship X5 model. It supports key video modes such as 360 degree video, Active HDR, InstaFrame Mode, Timelapse, TimeShift, Loop Recording, and Road Mode. Users can also swap or replace lenses as needed.

For audio, the camera provides Auto Wind Reduction, Active Wind Reduction, Stereo recording, and Direction Focus. Audio is recorded at 48 kHz, 16-bit, in AAC format. The device accepts microSD cards up to 1TB in UHS-I V30 speed class and exFAT format.

Stabilization and Connectivity

Insta360 has integrated FlowState Stabilization and 360 degree Horizon Steady into the X4 Air for superior real-time image stabilization and horizon correction. A 6-axis gyroscope assists with motion tracking. The camera also features gesture controls that allow users to start or stop recordings and take photos without physically touching the device, ideal for mounting on helmets, vehicles, or tripods.

The Insta360 app enables easy editing of 360 degree footage, offering AI-assisted tools for auto-editing videos, exporting files, and editing still images. Connectivity options include Bluetooth BLE 5.2, Wi-Fi, and USB-C 3.0 for data transfer and charging.

Price and Availability in Nepal

In the US, the X4 Air is offered in two bundles: the Standard Bundle, which includes just the camera, priced at USD 399.99, and the Starter Bundle, which adds a 114cm invisible selfie stick, lens cap, and extra battery for USD 439.99. When it launches in Nepal, the Standard Bundle is expected to start at NPR 64,000, with the Starter Bundle priced around NPR 71,000.
