Apple Unveils New iPhones and Apple Watch Series 4

During a highly anticipated event held at the Steve Jobs Theatre, Apple has introduced four new products, including the Apple Watch Series 4 and three new iPhones: the XS, XS Max, and XR. The launch follows a tweet from Tim Cook that sparked widespread speculation before the official announcement.

The Apple Watch Series 4 marks a significant upgrade over its predecessors. It features a 30 percent larger display with refined design and new interface options. The device now includes a speaker that is 50 percent louder and a ceramic and sapphire back for improved signal transmission. A standout feature is its ability to measure electrocardiograms through the digital crown, making it the first consumer device to offer this capability.

In the smartphone segment, Apple has expanded its portfolio with three new models. The iPhone XS and XS Max serve as direct successors to last year’s iPhone X, with the XS boasting a 5.8-inch Super Retina display and the XS Max featuring a 6.5-inch version. Both models offer a 120Hz touch-sampling rate, enhanced stereo sound, and improved Face ID. The iPhone XR, positioned as a more affordable option, comes with a 6.1-inch LCD display but lacks 3D Touch and has an IP67 water resistance rating, compared to the IP68 rating of the XS and XS Max.

All three new iPhones are powered by Apple’s A12 Bionic chip, a 7nm hexa-core processor paired with an octa-core Neural Engine designed for advanced machine learning tasks. This upgrade promises significantly faster performance and improved image processing capabilities.

Pricing for the new devices reflects Apple’s premium positioning. The base GPS-only Apple Watch Series 4 starts at $399, with the cellular version priced at $499. Pre-orders for the iPhone XS and XS Max begin on September 14, while the XR will be available for pre-order from October 19. The XS starts at $999 for the 64GB model, the XS Max begins at $1,099, and the XR’s entry-level 64GB variant is priced at $749.
