LG Wing Offers a Unique Swivel Design for Enhanced Multitasking

The smartphone market is evolving, with manufacturers exploring new form factors to offer more versatile user experiences. LG has entered this space with the LG Wing, a device that stands apart from traditional foldables by introducing a unique swivel design. This mechanism allows users to shift the main display sideways, revealing a secondary screen that optimizes multitasking and control.

The LG Wing features a 6.8-inch FHD+ OLED main display with minimal bezels, providing an immersive viewing experience. When swiveling to the side, a 3.9-inch GOLED secondary panel becomes visible, designed to host control functions, allowing users to run one app across both screens or manage two apps simultaneously. This 'Swivel' mode opens up new possibilities for productivity, media control, and interactive experiences.

Durability is a key focus for the Wing. LG has implemented a double lock structure and a dual spring hydraulic damper system to ensure the hinge can endure approximately 200,000 swivels, translating to about five and a half years of daily use. The device also includes water-repellent coatings and anti-dust technology, along with MIL-STD-810G certification for resilience against harsh environmental conditions.

Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the Wing's camera setup. It includes a 64MP primary sensor, a 13MP ultra-wide lens with a 117-degree field of view, and a dedicated 12MP ultra-wide gimbal motion camera offering pro-grade stabilization. Users can leverage 'Gimbal Mode' for stabilized video recording with on-screen joystick control. The phone also features a motorized 32MP pop-up selfie camera and supports 'Dual Recording,' enabling simultaneous video capture from both front and rear cameras in various display formats.

Under the hood, the LG Wing is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset, delivering solid performance with native 5G connectivity through the integrated Snapdragon X52 modem. The device comes with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of expandable storage. A 4000mAh battery supports Quick Charge 4+ and wireless charging, though power users might find the battery life demanding due to the dual displays and 60Hz refresh rate.

While LG has not officially announced pricing, reports suggest the LG Wing will debut in the US in October 2020 through major carriers such as Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T, with an expected retail price of around $1,000.
