OnePlus recently introduced the OnePlus 7 Pro, a device that diverges from the company’s traditional design approach while offering several standout features. Although many reviews have covered the phone’s main attractions, there are several details worth exploring further.

The camera system stands out as the phone’s first notable feature, comprising a triple rear setup with a 48-megapixel primary lens, a wide-angle lens, and a telephoto lens. Interestingly, the primary sensor is the Sony IMX586, which is also found in more budget-friendly devices like the Redmi Note 7 Pro, suggesting that while the specification sounds impressive on paper, real-world performance may not match that of higher-end competitors. This sensor uses pixel binning to produce 12-megapixel images, and while the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor may enhance outcomes slightly, enthusiasts should manage expectations regarding its ‘flagship killer’ claims.

One of the most visually striking aspects of the OnePlus 7 Pro is its display, which features Quad-HD resolution and a smooth 90Hz refresh rate. This rate results in exceptionally fluid scrolling, image loading, and video playback, setting a new standard that other manufacturers are likely to emulate in future releases. Although the OnePlus 7 Pro garners most attention, the OnePlus 7 also launched but remains overshadowed. Despite lacking the spotlight, the OnePlus 7 offers solid performance with a new processor and dual stereo speakers, inheriting several traits from the 6T. While it may be priced higher in the UK, it actually costs less in India than the OnePlus 6T did at launch.

Pricing remains a contentious topic for the OnePlus 7 Pro. In the United States, the device is priced at $669, which many consider fair. However, in India, the phone retails for Rs. 49,000, a notable increase compared to previous models’ competitive pricing. Perhaps most striking is the UK pricing, where the base model costs £649, equivalent to roughly $840, drawing criticism for deviation from OnePlus’s value-focused ethos in certain markets.

OnePlus also introduced a unique take on digital wellbeing through its Zen Mode. Unlike typical usage-tracking tools, Zen Mode restricts the phone entirely except for call and camera functions, forcing users to focus on tasks at hand—a handy feature for productivity-focused users.
