OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite Review: A Solid Mid-Ranger With Room for Improvement

In the fiercely competitive mid-range smartphone segment, the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite attempts to carve out its niche but ultimately struggles to differentiate itself from stronger alternatives. This device, which shares much of its hardware with the Realme 9 Pro, brings a familiar OnePlus software experience but misses several features that have become standard in this price bracket.

The Nord CE 2 Lite measures 164.3 x 75.6 x 8.5mm and weighs 195 grams, featuring a glass front with a plastic back and frame. Despite its solid build quality, the phone lacks an IP rating for dust and water resistance, a notable omission in this category. The design includes a glossy camera bar that diverges from OnePlus's usual aesthetic, and the absence of an alert slider may disappoint loyal users.

On the display front, the device sports a 6.59-inch FHD+ LCD panel with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. While the screen delivers adequate brightness and viewing angles, LCD technology cannot match the contrast and battery efficiency of AMOLED panels found in competing devices. The battery is a standout feature, with a sizable 5000mAh cell delivering approximately seven to eight hours of screen-on time under heavy use. Coupled with 33W SuperVOOC charging, the phone reaches a full charge in around 70 minutes, a speedy and convenient feature.

Camera capabilities are modest. The triple rear setup includes a 64MP primary sensor alongside 2MP macro and depth lenses, omitting an ultrawide shooter present in rivals. Photos tend to be bright with vibrant colors, sometimes to the point of unnatural saturation. Portrait modes across devices struggle with accurate skin tones. In low-light conditions, the Nord CE 2 Lite falters compared to the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G, which handles exposure and sharpness more effectively. Video recording tops out at 1080p 30fps, with the Nord CE 2 Lite producing shakier footage than its counterpart.

Audio is another area where the phone falls short, with only a single bottom-firing speaker that, while loud, lacks the richness and clarity of stereo setups available in competing models. Haptic feedback feels adequate but unspectacular.
