Price Concerns Dominate

Perhaps the most consistent feedback was about cost. A full 32% of respondents highlighted the steep pricing as their primary concern, noting that the base model’s $999 starting price was unprecedented for a smartphone. In the Nepalese market, this translates to a potential retail price exceeding NPR 130,000—a threshold already set by the high-end iPhone 8 Plus variant.

When asked to compare the iPhone X with its major competitor, the Samsung Note 8, 27% of voters leaned toward Samsung. The Note 8 benefits from a more favorable price point, broader availability, larger screen options, and the unique S-pen stylus. However, many acknowledge that the iPhone X offers superior processing speed and overall performance, making it a strong contender despite its drawbacks. Both devices have their merits, and the choice ultimately depends on individual user priorities.

Design Divide

Opinions on the iPhone X’s aesthetics were sharply split. Around 18% of participants described it as the most attractive phone they had ever seen, praising its sleek edge-to-edge display and premium glass construction. On the flip side, 14% expressed dislike for its look, calling it one of the least appealing designs. This divergence underscores the subjective nature of design preferences in the smartphone market.

Brand Loyalty and Past Purchases

Interestingly, ownership of earlier models did not appear to influence buying intent. None of the survey participants indicated that their decision not to purchase the iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus would stop them from considering the iPhone X, suggesting that Apple’s loyal customer base remains open to the newest offerings.

Overall, while the iPhone X’s high price and design choices present challenges, its performance capabilities continue to make it an appealing option for many Nepali consumers.
