Samsung Galaxy S7 Launch Details and Expected Features

Samsung is preparing to unveil its next flagship phones, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, at an Unpacked event on February 21 at 11:45 p.m. local time. The event will likely showcase a refined version of the design introduced with the Galaxy S6, maintaining a premium metal-and-glass build while making subtle adjustments for a sleeker appearance. Early leaks suggest the S7 will retain the 5.1-inch display seen on the S6, while the curved-edge S7 Edge will expand to a 5.5-inch screen, both likely retaining Quad HD resolution.

Under the hood, the S7 series is expected to adopt the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor in U.S. models, with alternative regions possibly receiving Samsung’s Exynos 8 Octa chip. Regardless of the chipset, performance is anticipated to remain strong and consistent across variants.

One of the most notable improvements over the S6 is the battery capacity. The regular S7 will reportedly pack a 3,000 mAh battery, up from the S6’s 2,550 mAh, while the S7 Edge will feature an even larger 3,600 mAh cell. Both models will continue to support wireless and fast charging.

Camera specifications may see a shift from the 16-megapixel sensor in previous models to a 12-megapixel unit, though the larger aperture should enhance low-light performance and overall image quality. This change aligns with Samsung’s history of delivering excellent camera performance across its recent flagships.

Users dissatisfied by the absence of a microSD card slot in the S6 and Note 5 may find relief, as rumors indicate Samsung could reintroduce expandable storage, either through a dedicated slot or by using the SIM tray for microSD cards.

The S7 and S7 Edge are also expected to carry an IP67 water-resistant rating, allowing for better protection in wet conditions. A brief hands-on video has already demonstrated the device running Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the latest version of Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface.

If the rumors hold, the base Galaxy S7 will carry a price tag of €699, with the S7 Edge set at €799. Early adopters may receive a complimentary Gear VR headset as a launch incentive. While some details remain unofficial, the upcoming launch will confirm whether these expectations align with Samsung’s actual offerings.
