Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5: The New Benchmark for Android Powerhouses

Qualcomm has officially introduced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, marking a significant leap in mobile processing technology designed explicitly for top-tier Android devices. Building on its predecessor, this chip promises notable enhancements in performance, efficiency, and multimedia capabilities, making it a strong contender for the hearts of flagship phone enthusiasts.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 utilizes TSMC’s N3P 3nm manufacturing process, featuring a 2+6 core configuration. It boasts two prime cores running at 4.65GHz and six performance cores clocked at 3.62GHz, resulting in a 20% improvement in CPU performance and a 35% increase in efficiency. Benchmark figures are impressive, with AnTuTu scores reaching between 4.2 million and 4.4 million points, surpassing previous records for mobile chips.

Gaming performance sees a major boost, thanks to the new Adreno GPU, which offers a 23% increase in speed and reduced power consumption. Titles like BGMI achieve smooth 120FPS in standard mode and up to 144FPS in high-performance mode, while Genshin Impact maintains steady 60FPS. The GPU also includes 18MB of dedicated cache and full support for Unreal Engine 5 features such as Nanite and Lumen.

AI capabilities have been significantly enhanced with a next-generation Hexagon NPU that is 37% faster and more power-efficient. The chip supports INT2 precision, enabling more complex AI models to run directly on devices. New features like Qualcomm Personal Scribe utilize the Sensing Hub for always-on, low-power processing to provide contextual recommendations and actions based on user behavior.

One of the standout features is support for the Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec, the first of its kind in the mobile industry. This allows users to capture near-lossless video suitable for advanced post-production work, similar to ProRes on iPhones or RAW on professional cameras. The chip also handles up to 320MP camera sensors, tripes the dynamic range of the ISP, and supports video recording up to 4K at 120fps, 8K at 60fps, and 1080p slow-motion at 480fps.

Connectivity options include the Qualcomm X85 modem, which enhances download speeds to 12.5Gbps and upload speeds to 3.7Gbps. The FastConnect 7900 suite adds Wi-Fi 7 support across multiple bands, Bluetooth 6.0, and UWB, all while reducing power consumption and latency during gaming sessions.

In Nepal, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is expected to debut in flagship devices this month, with the Xiaomi 17 series anticipated to be the first. Based on current market trends for ultra-premium models such as the Galaxy S26 Ultra, devices equipped with this processor are likely to start at around NPR 190,000.
